Writing Beyond the Proscenium
with Lisa Sanaye Dring
From ghost tours in warehouses to solo shows in living rooms to live online clown performances—we are looking for new ways to share theatre. Come explore the ever-expanding boundaries of ‘the stage.’ Even before zoom took over our lives, non-traditional forms of storytelling were exploding, and now we are tasked with getting even more creative about communicating dramatic vision.
In this class we will learn about different ways of twisting the laws of theatrical space. We will generate ideas about genre-bending and fourth wall decimating plays, and experiment in modes of communicating those impossibilities on the page. Writers will walk away with a fully formed pitch for their project, a final draft of a scene for the piece, and a lot of new tools for getting into theatrical trouble.
